Southeast Asian teas offer incredible energy and remarkable flavor. Parts of northern Thailand and Laos are covered in ancient tea forests, where wild tea trees thrive in harmony with the surrounding biodiversity. Tea produced from these old-growth forests is utterly unique and not to be missed.

Discover the Exceptional Teas of Southeast Asia

Although handcrafted with the same care and precision as teas from China or Japan, Southeast Asian teas don’t get the same recognition. Rishi Tea & Botanicals is on a mission to change that. We’ve fallen in love with the vibrant energy of the wild tea trees from Laos and the distinct floral flavors of Thai black tea and Ruby oolongs. Southeast Asian herbal teas create infusions of electrifying colors with bold and exciting flavors. Our most popular powdered tea mixes also come from this region of the world. It’s time to discover your new favorite tea origin.

How to Use/Brew Southeast Asian Teas

Many people have migrated to Southeast Asia over the years, and each group has brought a different style of making tea. From highly oxidized oolongs that require rinsing and are best brewed in a Gaiwan or Gongfu teapot to pressed vintage tea cakes that can be infused multiple times, each tea is slightly different. We encourage getting creative with our Southeast Asian herbal teas, which make refreshing iced teas and cocktails

FAQs

One of the reasons we’re so excited about Southeast Asian teas is that many of them come from very biodiverse environments that do not require heavy pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or expensive irrigation. The ancient trees survive as they always have by existing in harmony with nature. They develop deep roots that pull nutrients from healthy soil. It’s one of the cleanest and most sustainable ways to grow and harvest tea.

Yes, Butterfly Pea flowers contain the same chemical compounds that give blueberries and grapes their dark purple hues. The people of Southeast Asia use Butterfly Pea flowers as a natural dye. The Asian herbal tea is also a refreshing way to cool off on a hot, humid day.

Oolong is a style of tea that originated in China but is made in many different parts of the world. Oolong teas are a category to themselves because they can range from slightly oxidized with a slightly yellow or light green brew to heavily oxidized and roasted, like our Ruby oolong from Thailand. Oolongs are often withered and rolled into little balls.
